The inaugural A-B-C forum will be in three parts.
PART ONE – The five Cs.
Composition, Conducting, Collaboration, Creativity & Communication
PART ONE will be delivered as a plenary workshop where both composers and conductors will explore the fundamental relationship between the creative process (composition) and the re-creative process (performance) initiated between composer and conductor.
King and Graham have shared a close association in the ‘commissioning’ domain and will present specific aspects of this interactive process exploring the mechanisms used to consummate this project type formulae initiated and developed since “Cry of the Celts” in the Barbican Theatre, London in 1997.
PART TWO will be delivered as two separate specialist workshops directed by the forum tutors.
Composition Forum - Professor Graham will provide A-B-C composers with the opportunity to discuss their own approaches to composition, appropriate techniques used and applied to both the entertainment type model and the more cerebral composing ‘environment’, and the challenges of securing commissions.
Conducting Forum – Professor King will work with A-B-C conductors on specific aspects of the re-creative process dealing specifically with the integration of the tri-factors - Hands, Head and Heart’.
The Conducting forum will define and address key issues relating to the question of Power V Privilege, exploring this in more detail within the topic ‘Not Me but I’.
Areas covered include - Ictus, Impetus, Interpretation and Imagination.
PART THREE – A-B-C Guest Professor Graham unveils specific aspects of his first Australasian commission ‘Torchbearers’, addressing key issues of structure, form and analysis.
This forum will also provide A-B-C Conductors with the opportunity to address specific aspects relating to Professor Graham’s new work including the composers intentions, conductors confrontations and players challenges.
This aspect of the Forum will be entitled – ‘Unveiling the Inner Life of ‘The Score’.
